HELP - how do I get my website into search engines (Google)?!

I'm trying to get myself up and running as a freelancer and I've finally got my website together, but I have no idea how to get it into search engines as I'm not very techy.

Can anyone explain it to me in very simple terms please?

it used to go on metatags / metadata. Code you'd stick in the tags of the page. You'd have various keywords.

Google doesn't use this - it's engine crawls all the content of the page. Iif yr pages have been developed with accesibility in mind and use css layout - google will find it fine. You need to give it 48 hrs or so to find from when iit goes live

Alternatvely you can submit a siite to google - should be under link for developers. Might also be worth doing their priority listing thing - they mostly have special offers / trials for this. Will have a look for you

In order to get a position high up in the search results of Google (in addition to having good content, obviously) is to generate as many inbound links as possible (ie links to your website from other sites). BUT these links must be from respectable sites (NOT link farms) otherwise you could find your listing penalised. The more respectable the site, the more the link is 'worth'. For example, if you could get a link to your site from the BBC that would improve your ranking much more than a link from your cousin's blog of his trip to Oz.

So, get your website listed on business directories, local business networks, etc; get your friends and business contacts to link to it; set up a Facebook group and link to your website; send out press releases with your weblink in; etc etc.

This will work, but you need to give it time to move up the results rankings.
