For the last few days every time I type @ I get " and when I type " I get @. How do put it back to normal? Turning off and restarting have not done it.

It looks like you have a foreign keyboard setup. Go to Control Panel and check Regional and Language options are set to English (UK)

On the languages Tab click on DETAILS and you should find the keyboard settings

When my DH wasorked in a bank (a long time ago in his youth) he picked off the "N" and "M" key on one keyboard and swapped them over. It caused a lot of confusion at his work and an IT repair guy had to come out. He was not amused.

That's American keyboard settings. You can change it in Control Panel as previously said.

Thank you very much, I have done it and it works!

It sometimes happens without you deliberately changing to US Keyboard. I find it happens mostly when Firefox has maybe 20 windows and umpteen tabs open and is using nearly all available memory. Close Firefox and the " and @ swap back...

(Yes, I tend to thrash PCs, so even though I have 4 screens in front of me, all PCs are being pushed pretty hard.)
