Mine works but only an O2 sim as the phone used to be o2 (if this makes sense). I can use everything but if it's pay as you go, the mobile internet won't work, you can download a different browser though.

Its an O2 sim on contract. No internet allowance other than that it will only ever cost 98p or less.

Do i not need any special blackberry-ness?

The blackberry's i have found are unlocked

It should work if the phone's unlocked, mine's tied to 02 and I'm too lazy to get the code so it will only work with an 02 sim card.

IIRC, 02 also do a flexible contract that costs £15 (or something) a month for free internet and a certain amount of calls so it's worth it if you need to use the internet alot. Have a look at the web site.

Have you considered asking O2 whether you can "upgrade" to use any features they provide specifically for BB users? It is perhaps worth asking, as for most networks, once the phone and SIM are in your hands it's up to you what you do...

So long as you pay them their monthly fee, I don't think many really care if you pass on a new phone eg to a partner, or swap a new phone you've bought (eg at Asda) with the one you had from the contract... BICBW.

It just seems to me that you might get some options by speaking to them that would allow you more use from the BB unit than without talking to them.

It will work as a phone but you will not be able to use any of the data features.

If you call your phone provider you will be able to upgrade your contract and get a data bolt on. Mine is free, on a £35 a month contract (900 minutes and unlimited text).

There is actually no point having a blackberry ify ou dont have the data bundles because you wont be able to surf the web, upload photos to facebook etc.

pay as you go doesnt work with a blackberry becuase it is not just the internet you are using, you need the email delivery that comes from having the O2 email account etc.

Give your phone company a buzz.

My internet works ok, the last owner put a web browser on it, I can still get emails/web on it (called Opera). I've not tried putting music etc on it though.

MerlinsBeard · 29/03/2010 21:53

They won't let me change my contract. It's actually in DHs name. I don't want to (nor am able to) start another contract. I have had this number now since the day i first got a mobile - i am quite attached to it

hmmm

You can change phone companies and keep your number, you phone them up for a PAC code (tell them you are leaving the country and they are more likely to give it to you), you then give it to the company you want to change to. Orange have a blackberry pay as you go package, I bet their contact is alot better.
