Help! PC screen display suddenly widened???!!!

Anyone know what's happened and how to fix it? My PC screen display was working fine and fitted the dimensions of my actual screen and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, it's now widened beyond the right and left boundaries...sor of stretched out/elongated. I can't read/see the stuff on either side now.

How can I fix this, please?

Go into your control panel (or centre or what ever it's called) and check your monitor settings, also check the monitor settings on the monitor.

I can't go in to details as I'm sure you are probably a Windows user and I am not, so I don't know the layout of the system enough to give instructions.

Could be your graphics card is on the blink anyway.

What Ryoko said basically, but if the taskbar/start menu is also off the screen then you can right click the desktop and select Properties to get you to the settings.

IS the start menu off the side or do you just mean the current window got extra wide? Some applications will let the window get too wide.

From the start menu onwards, it's all elongated. I've clicked on something called 'page' and got it to reduce all print size to 75%, so I can see MN for eg but even then, I can barely see what's to the right and left of the underlying screen display and the writing is now tricky to read.

I'll have a look on Properties now, if I can find it and see what it says. I'm a bit afraid to do something that I can't undo and make it worse!!!!

Well, I've tried getting into Properties on Settings but it doesn't seem to have anything related to compressing the ifno. on screen to fit the screen.

Not sure what to try next?

Actually you might try just restarting the PC. If it's just a glitch and you haven't actually changed any settings that might sort it.

Or, if you look in the bottom right hand corner, is there a percentage value? If it's higher than 100% you may have accidentally clicked on this box instead of scrolling down and increased the content size.

Is the text larger too?

Guess what? My 8 yr old DS1 has just helped me to find Display Settings and alter my PC monitor, so that it's now readable, (although it's not back to exactly what it was).

Child genius...he's watching as I type this!

Many thanks for trying to help and BTW, I'd already done the putting it off and on again thing and it hadn't worked.

Thank goodness for 8 year olds. they are all growing up just understanding things that we had to sweat over.
