Anyone else got this at the moment? If so, how did you get rid of it?

Picked it up last night when I got a message from a friend. Obviouslly she hadn't actually sent it. It had a link for a You Tube video - but it wasn't. It is a virus. Stupidly I clicked on it and laptop is not infected.

Keeps sending my FB friends messages and posts with similar links - I am trying to alert them to it as much as I can.

How do I rid it?

I ran virus checker last night but it is still there.

Anyone?

Have also run malware (?) software which says it found it and killed it, but I think still there.

Did you runthis
thats what I have seen recommended in the past for facebook viruses

Hulababy · 18/03/2010 17:15

Link is broken. But yes I have run Malwarebytes. It found something and removed it. But still not gone from computer.

When I google for instructions I click on a link tht mentions it and my internet keeps redirected to an antivirus software company - part of the virus?

Could well be,do you have the name of the virus
and did you run a quick scan or full scan with Malwarebytes.
I dont know if this means anything but that link works for me,I wonder if the virus is stopping you opening it.

Hulababy · 18/03/2010 17:34

Have run the quick and full scans of malwarebytes.

Rerunning AVG now.

It is called zoobface I think.

Try thishere, thats assuming the link works this time

bubbles4 · 18/03/2010 17:43

I have used this method for vista but I wouldnt know about windows7

Dillie · 18/03/2010 17:44

sorry x posts there

if AVG doesn't pick anything up, I can recommend AVAST anti virus. Its a free ware program, so you don't have to pay for it or get those stupid subs where you end up paying more for what you need!

If you decide to get it, run a full in-depth scan. It will take several hours, depending on the size of your hard disk.

If that doesn't pick anything up, but your still having problems, then back up on a DVD your essential programs and re-format your hard drive. That is unfortunately the only way to get rid of some of these nasty viruses

Dillie · 18/03/2010 17:46

oh, and ad-aware and ccleaner are excellent programs as on bubbles post

I think they are available through filehippo.com

Hulababy · 18/03/2010 17:47

The links to the softare won't work for me. They say link broken etc. I think it is part of the virus.

If I can't clean it today I will send my laptop into DH's work tomorrow. It is officially a work laptop. I will back up my documents, pictures, itunes, etc tonight.

that link is for the moneysaving.com forum,if you look in the techie section, there is a stickie titled malware/spyware removal guide,it might be worth trying the methods listed there.

bubbles4 · 18/03/2010 17:51

I think it is the virus stopping you clicking the link as again that link works for me,good luck.

Dillie · 18/03/2010 17:56

Dont forget to back up your emails too. I had to reformat my hard drive, and lost some essential ones. I was not very happy!!

Hulababy · 18/03/2010 18:14

Good point. All my holiday emails are on there at the moment for this year's holidays.

Have run AVG and removed/healed all found threats. Reran malwarebytes and that now says no virus. Have just finished downloading spyware doctor and will try that.
