ipod touch - why would I want one?!

DH has very generously given me an ipod touch for my birthday! It looks lovely but frankly I have no idea what to do with it and strongly suspect I have no need for it! I'm not working at the moment so mostly at home, don't travel anywhere and it strikes me that everything it can do I can do on something I already have ie. telly, CD player, PC etc. However I am fully aware that this is a minority view and I must really be missing something!! Please tell me why I might want one so I don't have to offend DH and take it back to the shop?! (or just give it to DS who is desperate to get his hands on it!!)

I ask my children what to do when he computer breaks down - that gives you an idea of my knowledge of gadgets, however, I bought myself one of these when I was looking for purely a music ipod.

These touch thingys weren't much more expensive but my gosh, I still havn't tried out all the things it does. It's amazing.

I can't list the things it does as it would take forever but whatever you do - keep it.

When you have time sit down with someone who knows their way around one. They are brill.

I love mine... was a bit dubious about it to start with.
DH now complains that I will email rather than talking to him when he's sat next to me on the laptop
I'm BF and it's really handy to check facebook, email, watch youtube to pass the time.
Have fun with it!

I love mine and have to fight dd for it often. It works best with wifi so I use it more at home than out and about. Have a look at the Applications on the iTunes store, there will be something to get you going.

I use mine for email, Facebook, weather, twitter, Instant Messaging, MNetting, YouTube, music, pod casts, dutch lessons, Sims3, Tetris, solitaire, recording AF, google maps,I could go on and on. There are some very good Apps for children too.

I think it's quite easy to 'wonder why' if you are comparing it with a laptop, but from the facilities on the iPhone (and the iPod Touch is similar, just no phone function, so no bills to run up!) then it's a convenient size to use for the odd bit of browsing, etc, as well as playing music.

There will likely be more and more equipment in the future which will have their own remote controls but can also be used from an iPhone / iPod Touch, as companies will develop Apps since they know most 'gadget' users will have one of the devices (add iPad later) from Apple as well as whatever gizmo they are selling. Sonos, for example, does multi-room music systems, and have an App to control the various amps you have in your home, so no need to buy their 280 quid remote control.

It's great for quickly checking something.

Train times, movie times, maps, photos, facebook, email and so on.

You can pick it up, check something out, put it down and then be off doing something before a Windows based PC has even finished loading.

i have all my calendaer on mine, it is invaluable. loads of great app, inc millions of free games. Some ¨for me, most for the kids, useful when eg in doctors waiting room, can give it to the kids to play with to keep 'em quiet (not just games, reading/maths practice, physics& logic puzzles) Menstrual calendar. I'd say my calendar was my most used and valued app

We are getting DD one for her 8th birthday. She needs a new iPod - currently has my old one and it is old and full (very small memory). Wanted iPod as it works with our current iTumes library, and we all know how to use them, etc.

Looked at the Nano and the Touch. She will use it mainly for music in her bedroom (she has a docking station) and for games when out and about. Very little in the price, so seemed the most versatile option.
