How can I record tv without signing up to sky etc

I don't want to mess around with a VCR so I'm wondering if there's a way to record tv in the same, easy, way one does if one has sky but I don't want to sign up to sky (as I would have to kill DH as he'd watch it 24 hours a day). Can anyone enlighten me?

You can get Freeview boxes that record. We used to have one before we got Virgin Media.

We have a DVD recorder/hard drive recorder. Easy peasy and no faffing about with video tapes.

Meant to say they're called PVRs

As an alternative (and must admit I've not done this yet myself) you can get (in the sub-50 quid price bracket) Freeview-style (known as DVB-T ) adaptors for PCs, some include recording software.

Most come with a flimsy looking short whip aerial but I am sure you can plug in a proper TV aerial, perhaps via an adaptor.

Depends if you want your own personal computer cum TV to record what you want, or one that the whole family will use !

Check on www.scan.co.uk www.ebuyer.com www.svp.co.uk www.dabs.com

if you're interested in a truly "personal" PVR
