Why can I only send emails from my iPhone yahoo app but not the direct mail app on the iPhone?

I'm confuddled, and does it cost extra to send emails from the mail button rather than my yahoo app?

Thank you oh wise ones.

I presume that you've got a Yahoo mail account, not a silly question but I'm not sure how the Yahoo App works....

I also presume that you mean the Mail Application that you get on the iPhone?

If so is the Mail application set up to send and receive emails for your Yahoo account?

By that I mean in the Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings is there an account listed for Yahoo?

As to cost, well that's hard to tell. Both the Yahoo App and the Mail Application will generate some traffic but they will probably be about the same. If you're on a contract that gives you "unlimited" data then it's not worth worrying about.

Yes I have the yahoo account listed in the mail settings, I have unlimited data so do they come under that then?

The Mail application certainly uses data, I presume that the Yahoo application does too. So it's just a case of whichever you prefer....

Can the Mail Application receive your email?

What error do you get when you try to send?

My emails don't come through to the mail thingy, And when I try to send an email it just says sending but never actually sends.

this happened to me when I first got mine - I took it into the apple store (they're very, very helpful ) and the nice young man there (god I sound middle-aged ...) deleted the account from the mail settings, re-did it and it was fine - it's worked perfectly ever since

Oh might be worth a trip to the city to get it sorted then, thank you

It does sound like the settings aren't right.

When I open up the settings on the iPod these are what I have for my Yahoo mail account:

Yahoo account information
Address: My email address
Password: My password
Description: My email address

On the Outgoing Mail Server I've got:
SMTP Yahoo SMTP Server

If I click on that it says that the Primary Server is On.

Clicking on that shows:
Host Name: Yahoo SMTP Server
UserName: Optional
Password: Optional
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port 0

Does that look like what you've got?

If that all looks right then there's something that I remember having to do to my Yahoo email account to get it open to outside apps like Mail. That was a long time ago though, let me know if you're still not working and I'll check it out.

4andnotout · 27/02/2010 12:09

I have checked all my settings and the only thing different is

On the Outgoing Mail Server I've got:
SMTP.Yahoo.SMTP.Server

I just tried to check for mail and got this error message "Cannot Get Mail, Connection to Server then my email address failed"
