Is this an evil trick?

was just working on the alptop when suddenly a webpage opened up which said it was scanning for viruses. It said it had located several trojan virusus which were dangerous for stealing (sic) passwords, etc, and that I should immeidately download the program to deal with the problem. I assumed that this is a trick, either to make me buy a program or even to infect my computer with a virus and cancelled it. What does anyone else think?

I think my laptop has virus software installed by school but must admit I don't even know what to click on to check.

Yes - it's a scam. Very common one too.

Download Spybot and clear it off. Spybot is free and gets rid of this nonsense.

Doodlez - not that Spyware Doctor is a bad product (far from it) but did you actually mean to link to that, or did you mean Spybot Search & Destroy: www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html ?

  • aaaagggghhhh. I meant to link to Spybot! That'll teach me to post & run!
