Burning DVD from camcorder footage

We have a new Sony camcorder with a DISC BURN function and all the cables, etc. I have uploaded all the necessary PMB software.

I have tried to burn the footage using DVD -R and DVD+R discs, but the message "cannot find a drive to write to. Connect a drive." keeps appearing.

When I looked in the My computer E drive section, it says DVD/CD-RW.

Does that mean that I am using the wrong kind of discs and need -RW, or is it something else?

I could be wrong, but if your drive says DVD/CD-RW then I'd think that it can read from and write to CDs but can only read (not write) DVDs. So it's not a matter of getting the right disc but getting the right drive.

For what it's worth, I've got a DVD writer in this machine and it shows up as "DVD RW".

Is it a laptop or a desktop you've got? It may well be possible to upgrade the drive to a DVD writer relatively cheaply.

We have my DH's laptop since the PC died a few months ago.

I won't tell him that - I can use the need for a DVD writer as more leverage to get a new PC
