I need a laptop for Ds to have fun on and stuff and for me to MN. It won't have to leave the house. What do you lovely geeks recomend for a real novice? Willing to spend around £300-350.

Got my DD's in Tesco, for £330, which gives you Clubcard points.

Depending on your DS's age I wouldnt worry too much about the spec, just get the best you can for the price you want to spend.

Get as much memory as you can and the biggest screen.

Yes, I'd second that about the screen.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a Compaq CQ61 with 15.6" screen at 297 in Asda Living, then it went down another 50 quid on the Monday (and when I asked to see the actual laptop as the shelf had small empty boxes in lieu of the real thing) the guy said that with them placing a Sale sticker on the shelf and the price drops, he was confident they were clearing them for new (costlier) models to come in soon.

Suggested my sister get one, having bought one for myself, but she found they were sold out at every branch, and one fairly near me (towards Chester) which had had 30 in the stock room, had sold out when I went there a week ago. Tesco and others had the same machine at 330 when I was hunting for them at Asda, so they might reduce the cost later. I posted a note about cheap Windows 7 laptop in Geeky Stuff if you look back.

Unfortunately, have not found another so will be giving mine to my sister (whereas it might have been nice to have a brand new and up-to-date machine for a change!)
