Which iPhone to get? 8 or 16 or 32GB?

Am taking the plunge!

I am prepared to pay upfront a fair whack towards the phone but only want to pay about £20 a month though - anyone seen any deals or am I a bit mad?? I want to be on a contract in case things go wrong....

Personally, I'd go for the 16 or 32 if you are going to use it for internet tethering as well, as the speed is better (also if you will really be using the iPod functionality and want a good library of stuff, the extra storage doesn't go a miss).

BUT - I think you'll be looking at more like 30-35 per month (that's Orange, O2 prices) but if anyone else know something I don't with Vodafone and Tesco...

BTW I have the 16gb and its fabulous!

It will be the 16 or 32 then, thank you. Is it just a matter of storage then?

Yes, I think so. You can keep a decent amount of stuff on 16gb and I think the price difference is pretty substantial.

BTW your life will never be the same again! I tried not to be swayed by the hype but it really is completely amazing!

Thank you!

Can I just ask a dumb question?

I really want an iphone (and based on this thread I think 16Gb will be fine for me on the £30 tariff) but DH is not a fan - itunes snob - and keeps telling me to get something else and/or wait for the new iphone in the summer (that he will then tell me is too expensive at the moment and wait until the prices come down again )

One thing DH keeps saying about the current model is that you can only run one application at a time (unless you "jailbreak" it blah, blah). What does this actually mean? Presumably the phone still works when you are listening to music/surfing the net? What can/can't you do a the same time?

BadgersPaws · 09/02/2010 10:30

The iPhone can run many applications at once. For example you can browse the internet and listen to music from your iTunes libary.

What your DH is talking about is that your downloaded applications won't run in the background (when you're doing something else). If you move away to another application the downloaded one you were running "pauses".

For example if you download the Spotify music player you can only listen to music from it when you are running it. You can't go and browse the internet and play Spotify music.

Apple reserve the right to run many things at once for their own applications.

To be honest I don't see that changing with any updated iPhone either. There's no technical reason why the current iPhone can't do it but Apple stop it to keep the phone secure, stable and to maximise battery life. Those reasons aren't going to go away.

Thanks Badgers, that's really helpful.

I think I am decided to go for the current 16Gb model ASAP. Just have to convince O2 to match the minutes that Orange can offer on the £30 tariff as I'd rather stay with them.

Crapweasel did you get one ?
I am typing on mine now, am impressed...
So far so good.
I haven't worked out how to create a playlist yet, that's my challenge this weekend
