My memory stick is coming up with a message saying the disc is not formatted and everything is gone!

I backed it up a couple of weeks ago but have lost loads of planning and assessment stuff. I could (and probably will) cry. Is there any way to retrieve it?

I knew it was on its way out after it got fiddled with by a small child and I must admit it is held together by sellotape. I just got a new one today to transfer it all over. Is it worth going to a computer shop and getting a professional opinion or is there no point?

where did you buy it?

It is a cheapy from ASDA- Maxell. I know you get what you pay for but I have a lesson observation tomorrow and all of my planning is on it. I am a bit wary of the free data recovery software available online, don't mind paying but time is of the essence here.

oh have reread and noticed that its not new. sorry. Try pc world, they may be able to recover it for you.

Can anyone recommend any trusted recovery software? I don't mind paying although free is good, I am just so stressed about it, really need these files asap.

Me, I'd avoid PC World.

I might cautiously suggest recuva. I believe it's reputable, but I haven't had to recover lost data for about 8 years and back then I used Norton, so I wouldn't claim expertise.

There are some reviews here.
