it means it can't download it fast enough to keep up with showing it. It has to freeze the screen while it waits for some more of it.

Check nothing else is going on in the background. Maybe your anti-virus is downloading an update or something similar and using all your bandwidth.

If you are using Windows Media Player (for example) then on the TOOLS menu on OPTIONS there is a PERFORMANCE tab. On there you can set buffering to a longer time. That way it downloads more of it before it starts playing which can help.

Mine does this all the time.
Our broadband speed is shite.
If I use it at off-peak times like int eh morning, I can watch stuff, but not a chance n the evening.
Max speed here is half a meg, yet we have to pay the same as people getting 20!

Since you are going to watch it anyway it would be no different morally to download it from somewhere like piratebay and then play it from your computer. There wouldn't be a problem then.

BadgersPaws · 13/01/2010 19:49

What are you watching it with?

"Since you are going to watch it anyway it would be no different morally to download it from somewhere like piratebay and then play it from your computer."

I'd still avoid illegal downloads.

By using those sites you're encouraging "thieves" and there's also the possibility that either you or the people you actually download the file from will be tracked and could land in trouble.

Support the show you like, keep it legit.

i think i wanted to ask this question too!

is that when you get a wee circle going round and round. it happened to me on you tube last night.

i am with tiscali (or is that talk talk now?)
if i changed to someone like bt would that make a difference?

It might help or it might make it worse. Most of the ISPs are taking on customers without increasing capacity so everything slows down. Especially in the evenings.

BE is pretty good depending on your distance to your exchange. I get 10mb out of a maximum of 24mb. (Hardly anyone actually gets 24) and mine doesn't appreciably slow down in peak times.

Thanks guys - I understand more of what it is all about now and so I think I will have my ironing/Grey's Anatomy extravaganza early on Sunday morning to hopefully avoid the traffic and I will also increase my buffering thingy.

Again just shows you how useful it is to pool knowledge of us so knowledgeable mums!
