Laptop question about jumping cursor

When I'm typing an email on my laptop, every now and again the cursor jumps to somewhere else in the box which means I end up with half finished sentences and goboldegook words. It's really odd it seems to jump to wherever the mouse arrow has been left on the page. So if I'm typing this sentence and the mouse arrow happens to be sitting three sentences up the cursor will suddenly jump to where it it, if that makes sense.

Does this happen to anyone else? I'm trying to figure out if it's a laptop thing or an e-mail thing. It didn't used to do on my pc and it doesn't do it on the pc's at work which is why I thought laptop.

does anyone else have this problem? And if so is there anyway to prevent it?

Thanks

Yes, I am currently using our laptop as pc is sickly.

I put mine down to operator error as the keyboard is saller and flatter than I'm used to - so sometimes instead of pressing the uppercase/upper icon arrow with my right hand I press the up arrow.

Although sometimes im sure it happems just randomy as aswell the cursor on screen the pointer arrow thingy somtimes appeasrs as a large capital I and any brushing of sleeves on the mouse pad thing can send the typing cursor up to the pointing one iyswim and so I type a random bit into a previous paragraph.

frustrating isn't it

I have this, too! I think I might be brushing the touch pad, particularly the scroll section of the pad. Could this be the case for either of you?

It also can happen if the keyboard is a bit 'bouncier' than usual - it means the touchpad 'jumps' and the cursor can end up anywhere - I've found certain Acer models are prone to this. It can help to disable 'tapping' if you can do this on your laptop (it depends on which driver you have)- open the Mouse section of Control Panel & have a look for references to tapping.
