Firefox search box

I used to have my firefox search box thingy set to ebay.co.uk if I clicked on the ebay logo in the pull down menu. Now since I have updated firefox it has put itself onto ebay.com, which is no good to me as all the stuff is in the US! So I have to go to ebay manually and search - not that annoying, but I want to be able to use my search box again.

Any idea how I can change the setting? I don't remember ever setting it to the UK one in the first place so I don't know why it's changed to .com.

This site has details of how to change it I think:

www.nirmaltv.com/2007/08/24/configure-search-engines-in-firefox-and-flock/

It looks like the eBay search is a general one that handles multiple sites. Although I did see a ebay.co.uk only one in the Mozilla add-ons list

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12785

Hmm I don't think it is that though, because my ebay and amazon searches in there both used to go through to the UK sites. And also it has started "correcting" my spelling to American English - so since the update it seems to have changed me from a UK version of firefox to a US version.

I seem to remember it doing this once before actually. Does anyone know why? There is nothing in Options apart from preferred language to display pages in (which again, US English was set as my default but have no idea what that was set to before).

I've seen some weird behavior on my work PC because the company keep moving the proxy to the internet around. Sometimes we link through Germany, other times the US.

That causes my google searches to get a bit weird (usually I start getting german search results).

You could try looking up your IP address (try - whatismyipaddress.com/) and see if your ISP is doing something weird.

You could also try setting you preferred language to English/UK in the options - if you use the option to add a new language.

Could something have changed your Regional and Language Options in Control Panel? There is an option there to specify your location, and the update might have picked up the wrong option from there.

Liamsdaddy, have just tried that and it thinks I am in Glasgow! I am in the Midlands so not quite - that is still in the UK though so it still doesn't fit. (Or does it just mean that my ISP is based in Glasgow? Not really sure how it works.)

Uglymugly I have just checked and everything possible is set to UK or UK English.

I have just been onto the firefox support forums for a look around and it seems there are 2 English updates - BR EN and EN US. So it has probably just downloaded the wrong one. I will see whether there is a setting I can change somewhere.

Have just downloaded the EN-UK update and it is back to normal. (Posting for anyone else having this problem). I can't find a setting to choose the language of automatic updates though - hopefully now I have chosen the UK version it will do so automatically.
