Quick time movies - need 'codec' to edit/play

My Casio Exilim digital camera takes video in Quick Time format. I would like to edit these films using the Windows Movie Maker but when I try to upload the clips it says I need a 'codec' to play/edit them.

Please can anyone explain in words of one syllable what I need to do, please?

(and does the 'codec' problem also explain why I cannot play the clips on the TV via the PS3)

Thanks

A Codec is a "coder/decoder" which is a bit of software that allows video formats to be interpreted.

This is a decent set of codecs to go with.....
