I downloaded something from iTunes that claims to be a ringtone so why isn't it a ringtone?

There is a tab for Ringtones that says it will synch them but how do I get a ringtone in there??

Are you sure it hasn't synched? When I put a ringtone on I thought it hadn't worked & then discovered the ringtone page opened with the Standard tones at the top, but the custom ones were above it & I hadn't realised

No, it's not there - it's in with the music and I can't get it out.
