As the title says. Netbook wants to install and I don't want to install something I shouldn't.

Should I install Internet explorer 8, or not?

TIA

I wouldn't. Try something like Chrome or FireFox instead.

What operating system is your netbook running?

TipsyFairydifferentID · 27/12/2009 21:06

no, go for firefox

Kaloki · 27/12/2009 22:05

Another vote for no. Chrome and Firefox are the best there is right now.

Oh dear, I installed it after reading a reply to my other post. Have I made a huge mistake?

"Oh dear, I installed it after reading a reply to my other post. Have I made a huge mistake?"

It wont kill your PC, so don't worry. It's up to you if you uninstall it.

IE8 is just another web browser and will have replaced IE7. Its not a big deal. My wife's laptop has IE8, Firefox and Opera. She mostly uses Firefox, but occasionally having a few other browsers to use can be helpful when a website doesn't work quite right with your choice of browser.

I love IE8 - it's great, you won't have harmed your computer

Has it fixed the Farmville issue?

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 28/12/2009 21:01

Thanks all! I will take a look at the alternatives, but it's good to know that I haven't caused any damage. I really need to get more clued up on technical things ...!!!

Yes, thanks nannynick, it has solved the Farmville issue

"It's up to you if you uninstall it."

Doubt you can uninstall Internet Explorer (in any case, since it is a component used for Windows Explorer, the 'File Manager', and for getting updates from the Microsoft site, it is quite important you leave it on your PC, even if, like many in Europe, you use Firefox, Opera, or Chrome instead of MS IE).

The biggest 'downside' of MS Internet Explorer is that it has quite often been used by those wanting to install 'malware'... things added to the PC and tied to MS IE are often called "Browser Helper Objects" which start up any time the browser is started, so if they're nasty, they're sometimes more difficult to get rid of as they are "in use" and may not be deleted from memory while MS IE is running.

I used to uninstall IE, I only keep it now to test how many web standard codes it chooses not to use when I do web design. Grrr.
