I don't know but dh loves Windows 7. We have never liked Vista, preferring XP and we wern't overly keen oon that.

He says Windows 7 is much much better.

It probably will, they usually advise that you back up everything you can. I've never just upgraded though, always done a clean install. So not 100%.

Honestly though, I'd do it. Windows 7 is much faster than Vista, your laptop will run much better with it!

Ordering the upgrade (in most cases) needs to be done by the end of January, but you aren't forced to do the update immediately, so you can back up anything you have on the laptop (photos, bookmarks, e-mail, documents, music) before you put the upgrade CD into the machine.

We have just bought a new pc with Windows 7 on it and I cant make head now tail of anything - its just totally different and to my mind isnt geared up for work at all - its more of an entertainment environment with huge icons and other bizarre things grr...

It's a massive difference to XP, as far as I can tell it's what Vista was meant to be. SO it does take a while to get used to, but I'm finding it more intuitive to use.

Have you got any top tips for me - like how to make the icons smaller and where 'my computer' is!

Kaloki · 03/01/2010 16:39

My Computer (or a variation of it) should be in the bottom left corner of your screen near your start button, it's the folder icon. That will take you to "My Documents" and any drives attached to your PC.

Not sure about Icon size, will have a nose round and let you know

Ok, had a look, can only find a way of making the icons smaller on the taskbar (the bit at the bottom) but not on the desktop. If you want to change the taskbar, it does make the icons titchy though, go to Start > Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu. Then check "Use Small Icons"

domesticextremist · 03/01/2010 17:29

ooh thanks they are tiny arent they - mine was slightly different to that though.

I suppose am just disorientated because the icons are completely different as well...

tell me you've got used to it...

Completely! XP confuses me now
