This has been going on for months now. I still cannot open links when they are like this
I can copy and paste a link and can open it with no trouble but the other way I just get "page not responding"

I've read it could be something to do with a firewall?
I've tried asking DH but he never gets the chance to help me.
It used to work fine, just all of a sudden stopped.

I thought it was just MN links but I tried open a link on another website - was trying to print out colouring in pictures for the children to do over Christmas. I got the sme "page not responding" message.

Please help me!!!!

I have a Macbook Pro and use Firefox btw

I really hope somebody can help me. I've asked several times on here before

PS - I'm hopeless with computer lingo so Layman's terms would be great

My DH has his own user account and I have tried the MN links from there and it still doesn't work. Should I still try that redirecting website?

Try setting up a completely new user account and try both the MN link and typing in the address of that redirecting URL.

Also check the DNS and Proxy settings of both the PC and the Mac.

On the PC bring up a DOS prompt and type in:
ipconfig /all

Then look for the lines that say DHCP and DNS.

Then fire up IE and look at Internet Options/LAN Settings and see if the "Use a proxy server" option is checked.

On the Mac you should be able to find those things by going into System Preferences and looking under network (sorry not on a Mac right now, ask again if you need more detailed instructions).

Oh lordy, I have no idea how to do all of that. Will get DH onto it when he gets home.
Thank you so much for all of your help!

Sorry hard to know. If PC and MAC are both connecting to the same router, then if the PC works and MAC doesn't, it's got to be a problem on the MAC somewhere.

"plug internet into PC then switch the modem on and off" - does that mean that the same modem is used by either the MAC or the PC? Is it a wired connection between PC and modem (might be a router) - "plug internet into PC" implies it is. How does the MAC connect, same cable or WiFi?

Fruitbatlings · 22/12/2009 16:12

sorry, yes it's a router. Told you I'm hopeless with this type of thing!

MAC is wireless

So maybe it's the wireless link that's playing up. With luck your DH can take a look at the MAC later.

Fruitbatlings · 22/12/2009 16:36

Yes hopefully he will He's one of those people who will always "do it later"
