Ok dont panic and read this

SleepyDopeyGrumpy · 18/12/2009 13:22

This is free and can be used instead of the one in the link i sent you Alternatively just google "Free recovery software"

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 13:36

Okay thanks. I have done it and waiting confirmation... I am panicking big time though. I cannot think of all that is lost.

So tell me can you get them back with these recovery things?

I'm book marking this thread for the dreaded day when I do similar........

MrFibble · 18/12/2009 20:06

Hope it works out for you. DH accidently deleted all of our photos once and managed to get them back using this sort of thing. Good luck. Fingers crossed!

SleepyDopeyGrumpy · 18/12/2009 20:07

Just found this again! Any luck?

nannynick · 18/12/2009 20:20

Could also try Recuva which will attempt to recover deleted files from hard disk or portable media.

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 20:34

It seems to have recovered a lot of stuff but I have got to find the pics now and I am not sure I know how. Give me more time. I am glad to hear someone managed to so maybe not all is lost!

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 20:42

I do have to pay don't I?

MrFibble · 18/12/2009 20:45

DH got everything back but somethings he got 2 copies of and then he had to go through and look at everything and re-name things as the names were lost. It took him a long time but it was worth it.

Good luck - I hope you manage to get back what you need.

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 20:58

Someone has got to help me a bit more please [begging emoticon].

I have run the recovery and it seems to have found all the pictures which are now saved onto a new folder. However for me to open I have to purchase the software. Is that right? Is it how it works?

OP posts:
PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 21:00

The free one did gave me a link which didn't work and then told me it was going to send me an email with same link but has not done so. So after signing in to experia I have got no info and no software. Bit suspicious, no?

My other half is a bit of a computer geek and helped me out when I did something similar.

If you want some help I am happy to put you in touch with him. Somehow, if we can pass on an email address without publishing it on here!

Beauregard · 18/12/2009 21:05

Dp says to go on file hippo.com and download a programme called recuva and give that a go .Totally free.

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 21:06

I'll be very grateful if you could. I seem to have gotten to the point where my files are saved back on a folder in my computer but in order to access them I have to pay. I don't mind doing that but as I am useless I wonder if it is right or if you can get it free in other ways. you can email me at villa villa colle at bt internet dot com. no spaces. I cannot do cat.

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 21:09

Pelvic I'll try that as well thanks.

Oh I forgot to say thanks to you too bigbadmummy. Apologies but I am distressed.

i was recommmended a free software called recuva (think thats how it was spelled), when my friend deleted all hers, and she got them all back

lou33 · 18/12/2009 21:14

oh i see that was already mentioned, sorry

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 21:16

another stupid question for you.

the first software has fund the pics and put them in a folder. Recuva does not seem to find them. Is it because they've already been recovered or because I need to run an advanced search?

fabhead · 18/12/2009 21:19

this may have been mentioned before but turn the PC off and dont use it again until you are performing the recovery. When you delete files, even if you keep the shift key down and bypass the recycle bin, you are not actually deleting the files from the hard disk. It just marks the space where they were/are still stored as free and available to be used by the OS (windows) when it wants to write something else to the disk. So you should power off the PC so that doesn't overwrite your picture files and then, in theory, that info is still there to be recovered using, best case scenario, one of the free apps, worst case scenario, sending the disk off to a specialist company. Most of it should still be there on the disk if you havent used the PC too much.

Good luck

fabhead · 18/12/2009 21:21

sorry x posts, looks like you are getting there. If the files are in a folder and you can see them then those ones have been recovered, hopefully, copy and paste them to wherever you want to be. Dont delete anything tho until everything is back.

fabhead · 18/12/2009 21:23

sorry not reading properly - I think you normally have to pay someone something at some point if you dont already have recovery software on your PC. I know when this hapenned to my BIL my DP sorted it for him (IT bod as well) and I think they paid about 60quid. You could try and "find" one of the application for free using bittorrent or such but this is probably going to stress you out more.

PincoPallino · 18/12/2009 21:27

I am only using it to be here and doing that. should I stop being on MN?

I thought I had a recovery program but maybe not.

Oh I swear at times like this I wish I paid a bit more attention during IT lessons.
