If so ~ please tell me which sort of PS3 you have?

My son says no, none of the PS3's will play any PS2 games, the PS3 is not backwards compatible, whatever that means.

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 21:48

Some but not many and there is a list on the sony website.

That is according to dh

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 21:49

the 60 gigabyte one does

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 17/12/2009 21:49

our ps3 plays ps2 games. You have to create an internal memory card to save the games on.

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 21:53

Oke doke thanks

Kitten do you have the 60gb one?

what do you mean create an internal memory card?

Is it alos a Blu-ray player?

OP posts:
OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 17/12/2009 21:56

It is the 60gb one. Creating the internal memory card is easy, you just follow the prompts when it asks you to when you put in a ps2 game. It is a blu-ray player (I think they all are?) and the quality is excellent. Also learned this week that I can stream my photos and music onto it from the pc via wireless internet.

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 21:56

they are all blue ray players (again according to dh)

dh also reckons that kitten must have a 60gb one.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 17/12/2009 21:58

I do (am very lucky) dh chose it cos of the ps2 compatibility (tis coming back to me now)

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 22:00

Oke doke deffo brill thanks

I am thinking about getting one for DS for his birthday but he has loads of PS2 games and still loves playing them

I don't need it until May buit thought I may get a good deal if I got it now

Or do you think I shoudl wait until Springtime?

How old is the PS3 60GB one?

Has it been overtaken or is it the newest version?

OP posts:
OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 17/12/2009 22:03

Ours is 2 years old, so I'm not sure if subsequent ones are compatible. Perhaps you might be able to get an older one now that the new super duper thin ones are out?

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 22:03

60gb is the original version, they took out the ability for them to play ps2 to make the console cheaper.

Dh says keep your ps2 because you will have to pay so much more for a 60gb one and buy it 2nd hand. He said just run both systems for a while as eventually ds will probably get into the ps3 games IYSWIM

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 22:04

what is the spec of the new ones then?

OP posts:
OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 17/12/2009 22:05

ahhh. good job your dh is around sleighgirl!

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 22:06

The thing is the new game he wants isn't on PS2

Lego Indiana Jones {new ones}

OP posts:
SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 22:07

Kanga - Dh says "pass, look it up in a catalogue" they are smaller & cheaper but NOT PS2 or PS1 compatible.

PS2s are fairly worthless so may as well keep it and buy a cheapish new ps3

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 22:07

is it a different game to the Lego Indian Jones on PS2???

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 22:08

oke doke thanks for help

OP posts:
RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 22:09

he has the one from last year that was PS2 & PS3 but there is a new story one only on PS3 IYSWIM

OP posts:
SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 22:09

www.gamexchanger.co.uk/prods/show.asp?pid=1846

ccan you fob him off with lego batman, dh has got that one to sell

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 22:09

or star wars one

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 17/12/2009 22:10

have both of them already

OP posts:
BadgersPaws · 18/12/2009 09:04

The current version of the PS3 does not play PS2 games. The original PS3 could, it basically had a PS2 inside. However they gradually took that compatibility away and now you can't do it at all.
