Do you have Avery labels?

If so, various templates here. Put the label size in the search box and it will bring up the templates.

I tried creating labels in Word and I nearly punched the bloody screen in in frustration The above is soooooo much easier, they also do xmas pictures on the labels

To do it in word you have to close the data source first, then open and new document from the labels tool, find the data source and mail merge.

Not very helpful am I but that's the non techy explanation.

oooh answers!!

Thank you both. I do have Avery labels but it just seemed that surely there would be an easier way.

Thanks

What program do you have your addresses saved on? Something like excel? And then do you use Word for your mail merging?

I've always wanted to be able to do labels. I might give it a try.

thats the thing Wriggling - I haven't saved my addresses on anything yet. I was planning to do it this Xmas so I never have to do it again and I'm trying to work out which program is best to save them in first to make it eeezy from hereonafter

I'm a step behind all you clever people. perhaps I should have asked that first.

You can probably select Create Data Source somewhere in the mailings menu.

Will go and find it in the new version of Word and report back.

purpleturtle · 12/12/2009 19:50

OK. Are you in Word 2007?

If so - go to the Mailings bar and Select Recipients, followed by Type New List.

It's all fairly straightforward, I think.

Only word 2003 I'm afraid, purple

Probably easier to use tbh.
Do you want a mailmerge tutorial? Or do you want to do what waswondering suggested?

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 12/12/2009 19:57

Easiest way for me, if you're not doing a merge from excel is this:

-Tools

-Letters and mailings

-Envelopes and labels

-click the 'labels' tab at the top of the pop up

-Click on the picture of the label and select the Avery label you have (should be numbers on the sheet)

-Click 'New Document' (button on the right)

Type in your addresses.

HTH

I tried mail merge once. I would have got quicker address labels with my cat typing.

Slambang · 12/12/2009 20:39

thanks all. I am working through Movethestars list.
