Vista v Windows 7?

Buying a new laptop for MIL...or at least finding recommendations.

I am assuming Windows 7 is the way to go?

Any other recommendations WRT to RAM etc (i.e. I know Vista was RAM hungry)?
Anything to look out for?

Windows 7 does seem to be a lot better than Vista. Though that said for ease of use and security have you considered getting a Mac? However if your MIL is in to games then I wouldn't really consider one.

Windows 7 is still Windows so it does chew up memory but it won't take as much as Vista did, there's been a lot of work done to the plumbing inside.

The more memory the better though, I'd look for at least 2gb.

Thanks,

MIL is a bit scared of change - so I daerdn't suggest a MAC!!! Plus she only has around £300 to spend so I think that a MacBook will be out of the question.

I am looking at 2-3Gb RAM - but seeing as there doesn't seem to be many good offers out at the moment I think she is going to see if anything comes up in the sales. I knwo that Dell usually have some good free delivery/memory upgrdaes in Jan.

windows 7 is not compatible with I Tunes whatsoever. So if you have children who want to use i tunes you will ahve a problem with ipods etc

my laptop came with windows vista, I have been tempted to go back to xp on more than one occasion! Don't know much about windows 7 but one of my friends has it and likes it. Wasn't aware about the itunes thing though. I have 2 gb ram but def need more to run vista!

I am running itunes on windows 7 on my netbook

According to the apple website you can download iTunes 9.0.2 for Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7

we couldnt get itunes on our laptop with windows 7 for downloading songs. A friend of mine has managed to do it for us eventually but obviously windows dont want you to use any apple products, they want you to run windows media player.

my friend is a real computer whizz and he put the error code in the internet and it seems that 1000's of people are having the same problem. All with windows 7.
It allows you to do a trial on itunes for a limited period and then tells you it is storing it in the music folder. When you go and look for it ,it is no longer there. It took over 2 hours for a computer doc to sort ,so it would have taken me forever

alypaly · 13/12/2009 22:32

lonicera ,it tells you you can download it. We tried and then went to the file where it was supposed to be stored and and was intraceable

alypaly · 13/12/2009 22:32

untraceable!!!!
