Worms? Spam being sent from my aol account?

We opened an email from someone I knew and clicked on a link before thinking about it.
Following that my aol sent spam from my email account to everyone in my email contacts.

Having apologised to everyone I thought no more of it. Yesterday it did it all again.

I am so annoyed. What can I do to stop this happening again?

Also I took a photo to work on my memory stick. When I plugged it in I had a message saying that there was a worm and the administration had prevented it but the issue had been logged.

Is this connected?

Help?

It's almost certainly connected. Make sure your antivirus is up to data and scan your hard disk and memory stick. If the AV doesn't find it, try some anti-spyware tools, e.g. SAS (super anti-spyware and malwarebytes). If they don't find anything get geeky/professional help (not PC World).

I am AOL and today when i logged in AVAST noted a worm, i did a full AVAST boot and scan and it has been removed.

I have 3 anti virus programmes as some pick up on different things.
