OK I am on a tariff with o2 so no idea about internet/email charges on PAYG sorry. On my tariff using the internet/email etc is free.

The internet is through either wifi or via the 3G service (quick), the 2G service (not so quick) or the mobile signal (slow).

I also have the iphone on o2. The packages includes data charges (i.e. email and tinternet). I use mine every day, including data and don't pay more than the monthly charge.

You can check email/tinternet using 3G - which works almost anywhere - depends if you have a signal, bit like normal mobile phone.

In some public places you get free wifi which is handy

This is on a monthly tariff by the way.

Here are the charges for the iphone on o2 charges

You can get the iphone on orange too - see here

Again orange include cost of data roaming in their packages so if you're on monthly and dont exceed the limits (I think they're quite high) you should be fine

Thank you. What I couldn't understand which you have kindly explained was whether you only got to use the intenet where there is wifi. But I now see it is done like a mobile phone type thing. Thank you so much for your help.

No problem. Enjoy the iPhone if you get one - I love it (using it now)

I have an itouch already which I love. But the fact you can use the Iphone all over is the appeal. I think I will wait until January as Vodafone are starting them then and they have the best coverage in this area. Thanks for your help though.
