Excel question please

I know (or rather I think) there is a function in excel whereby I complete about 5 cells down a column with 45, 45, 46, 47, 48 and then I copy and do a paste special of sum sort so that it pastes the sequence of numbers continuously down the rest of the column that I have specified. Anyone know how to do that please? I cant believe how rusty my computer skills have got! it's quite scary.
I'm trying to end up with 45 to 250 in one column.

TIA

Yes - it depends upon which version of Excell you have but you are looking for the FILL function & once you find that you need to click on SERIES

which version of excel?

Katymac · 25/11/2009 22:02

You need to highlight the area you want completing before you use FILL

Just tried on 2007 and all you have to do is fill in the first 3 (or 4 or 5) then highlight and drag

Highlight the five cells in the column.

THEN click on the tiny black square at the corner of the highlighted area but keep your finger on the mouse button and drag the mouse so the highlighted area gets extended down the page to the desired length.

In the step value it should say 1

bruffin · 25/11/2009 22:10

You need to highlight the first numbers ie 45,46,47 then drag the box down to 250

sorted it! I wasn't including the original numbers when i highlighted the area I wanted filled. Thanks again for your help.
