Printer problem

My printer is refusing to print, the little screen says "cartridges missing or not detecte". They are in there, is it because I need new ones?

It shouldn't be. Most printers can tell the difference between a cartridge that is empty and one that isn't there.

What make and model of printer have you got?

Have you tried taking the cartridges out, carefully cleaning any electrical contacts on the cartridges and putting them in again? If that doesn't work, I would try new cartridges, but I would replace them one at a time to see which one is causing the problem - it may be that one of the cartridges has developed a fault. If that still doesn't solve the problem, it may be time for a new printer - unless you've got an expensive printer it will probably be cheaper to replace it than get it repaired.

It's HP C4280 abd it's 18months old and hasn't had much use. I've done what you suggested but it looks like I'll have to change the cartridges. Thanks anyway.
