Excel question - how do I insert a button at the top of each column to sort the data?

you don't need to insert a button - click in the column you wish to sort, then the A-Z button on the toolbar

I "think" the only way to do this is to put some code behind a button, which is something that some people stop from running as it's a huge security risk.

I'm curious to see if there's a better way...

use an auto-filter - that way you've got all the options above (ascending, descending, alpha etc).
