I've downloaded a few, some games, Tube map, Sky news, Facebook etc.
What are the best ones to get?

The spirit level one. You never know when you need to see if that pub table is flat.

EyeballsintheSky · 10/11/2009 22:25

Depends on your lifestyle. I love my National Rail one. I can spend hours planning imaginery journeys and seeing if the 19:57 from Waterloo has reached Winnersh Triangle yet And the Radio Times. Never again will I buy a tv magazine!

LyraSilvertongue · 10/11/2009 22:33

Great suggestions. I already have the spirit level. My table is NOT level.

Shazam. You just point your iPhone at the radio and it tells you the name of the song that is playing. With helpful link to iTunes so that you can download it.

I love my PONS dictionary French/English, as I live in Switzerland and my French is still quite bad.

AppBoxPro is good, as it has a lot of Apps in one.

Wunderradio for worldwide radio.

AirMouse for remote control of PC. Handy when I am ironing and watching a film on the laptop.

Eyeballs
You are a virtual trainspotter [shock¨]

LyraSilvertongue · 10/11/2009 22:34

Ooh, Shazam sounds good.

Hassled · 10/11/2009 22:38

I didn't know there was a Radio Times one - must get. WunderRadio is great.

RustyBear · 10/11/2009 22:40

I have the National Rail one too, and oddly enough often use it to check whether a train has got to Winnersh Triangle, though normally they are coming from the other direction with one of the DC on....

EyeballsintheSky · 11/11/2009 10:52

I don't even know where Winnersh Triangle is, just that I've spent years staring up at the board for the Dorking or Guildford and seeing the name. Is it really a triangle?

RustyBear · 11/11/2009 11:04

It's mainly an industrial estate in the triangle made by the M4, the A329M and the Reading-Guildford/Waterloo railway line.

When someone's coming from Reading on the train, I check my iPhone & leave to pick them up at the station when the train gets to Winnersh triangle.

ClaireDeLoon · 11/11/2009 11:11

oh oh can I have some iPhone sympathy please I have cracked the screen on mine is still usable but spoilt

Hassled · 11/11/2009 12:09

Claire - if you happen to have an iPhone near you, go and flirt shamelessly with one of their "Geniuses".

Mine stopped finding any wireless network - apparently a common problem - and despite the fact I hadn't even bought it from Apple (got it from O2 who basically said it's out of warranty, tough), they gave me a new iPhone for free. I bloody love Apple now.

Hassled · 11/11/2009 12:10

I don't mean "an Iphone near you", I mean "an Apple store near you".

EyeballsintheSky · 11/11/2009 12:23

I broke the screen on mine a few weeks back. Was in the Apple Store for something else and I happened to ask someone what my options were for getting it fixed. He gave me his card, said it would be under warranty and told me to make an appointment. Of course it wasn't under warranty but I blagged it and they replaced the phone for free as I had been promised by this chap. Felt slightly guilty but I saw it as pay off for the thousands of £ I've spent on Apple products, plus the droves of people I have converted to Macs.

Short version: Go to the Apple Store and cry

MmeLindt · 11/11/2009 12:27

The back of my iPhone cracked when the DC had been playing with it for some reason and I went into the Apple store to ask advice.

After using a pair of tweezers to extract a massive fluff bunny from earphone socket he said that it could not be repaired and gave me a brand new one.

I love Apple

MmeLindt · 11/11/2009 15:14

Just remembered one of my best apps, Stanza. Forget Kindle for reading books, the iPhone app does the same job and you have it with you all the time.

I download books from Fictionwise, at a fraction of the price of buying English books here in Switzerland.

TennisFan · 11/11/2009 21:28

Great advice about the apple store i might try that, as mine is cracked at the front and 'spolit' but still working.

ClaireDeLoon · 19/11/2009 10:05

Thank you for tip re Apple Store I popped in yesterday and they said it should be fixable instore and will probably be done under warranty. Am going back Monday evening for them to work their magic.

WebDude · 19/11/2009 14:30

Eyeballs... "Go to the Apple Store and cry" not quite sure that would work for 'dudes' like me

(if I ever get some iThing)

Nyx · 20/11/2009 19:22

Stanza's not the best for reading...Eucalyptus is! I love the way the pages 'turn'.

Sheep launcher

Smack Talk (sounds awful, but it's actually a cute wee guinea pig/kitten/puppy which, when you say something, copies you in a squeaky voice. It's hilarious and keeps dd happy for aaaages. My colleagues at work love it too.

Azkend. It's a fab wee game and I'm not even into games. Even my mother was hooked within 5 minutes. Also bejewelled...it's lovely and addicting too.

BettySuarez · 01/12/2009 23:34

Have been trying to find this thread for ages

We downloaded the ghostradar app at halloween and scared the willys off all the kids

Can't live without Tetris and Solitaire

Toyed with the idea of downloading the
iPeriod app but have thus far not bothered!

momijigari · 01/12/2009 23:46

Lurks for future reference.

I keep downloading apps to entertain my children, instead of interesting ones for me.

I got ipiper just for my brother too - that is not a recommendation!

I dropped my iphone the first week I got it, paid to get the glass replaced... wish I didn't live so far away from an apple store!

charlotteolivia · 02/12/2009 00:00

sorry op, hi-jack clairedeloon Was it the actual glass top that had cracked or the lcd bit underneath??
I dropped mine and it looks as though ink is 'bleeding'
I did some googling but it looked like apple wouldn't replace it as it is not covered under warrenty.... have now got slightly raised hopes that it may get replaced!! hopefully!

What store did you go to?

charlotteolivia · 02/12/2009 00:01

ooh and eyeballs too... was it the glass that was broken or the lcd bit?
