Ok Mumsnet buffs ....answer me this!!

Have heart set on new Sony Ericsson Satio.

Costs about £400 new, no contract.

Would you keep on "pay as you go", paying a great huge whack for phone upfront, no guarantees, but no monthly bills - my usual monthly spend is never more than £15?
I'd also buy a "bolt on" with O2 for £7.50 a month for unlimited web browsing.
I would buy phone on credit card through cashback site I think.

Or would you go on an 18 month contract, with free phone, getting new phone upgraded at end of contract, but paying £30 a month, phone guaranteed etc but not all calls/texts/web browsing included so I would always have more to pay?
