When I used to connect my phone to the computer it would back up my photos automatically into 'my pictures' now it has stopped doing this and I cant figure out a way of getting my pics from my phone to the computer. I must be missing something obvious but as usual I need someone to show me!

So PLEASE help soon as I have wedding/honeymoon pics to copy over!

(slightly desperate face )

I haven't done this for a while. Are you on a PC or Mac? And when you connect the iphone does it recognise it and make a noise or pop up with a message or something? And when the backup was working automatically, was that through iTunes? My PC usually makes a little noise and then up pops a list of things I might want to do. Tell me a bit more and I will try and help.

ooh thanks X-posted.

Its on a laptop.
It is backing up through Itunes but I cant get the pics copied into 'my pictures'.

they were doing this until about a week ago and since I came home the little box doesnt pop up saying 'copying pictures'this was through the laptop rather than Itunes IYSWIM?

maybe you ticked something else in the 'always do this for this device' thing - can you sync them in iTunes anyway?

am not an expert, have killed my iPhone

sob

nymphadora · 01/11/2009 23:06

it connects and does all the itunes thing but I want these pics into 'my pictures ' like it was doing

Also if I go into my computer the Iphone doesnt show up , is it supposed to? My old phone used to be in there and I could use it like a pen drive

Can I copy them from Itunes?

when it's plugged in, can you go to computer (via start button) then on to 'devices with removable storage' and you can probably set it up from there?

nymphadora · 01/11/2009 23:10

It should definitely appear in My Computer, so for a start, try the following:

  1. Open Start Menu >> Run and type services.msc and press ok [ this will open up services ]
  2. Locate the service named Apple Mobile Device (or Mobile Device Driver)
  3. Double click the service to open properties
  4. In the "general" tab find the "startup type" drop-down arrow menu and make sure "automatic" is selected.
  5. Also see the general tab to check the "service status". If it does not say "started" then click the start button to start the service and connect your phone again and click apply.
  6. If the above procedure does not help in your case, then try restarting the service. Right click on "Apple Mobile Device" and choose restart.

(I copied and pasted this stuff, so for more info and more suggestions see this link which looks very similar to your problem)

or you could just mooch about in your program files until you find iTunes, then the iTunes photo library then copy the pics from there and paste into your other Pictures folder?
