how do I change the icon for a document on my MacBook desktop?

I've set up a Powerpoint presentation for one of my kids and saved it on my desktop. I want it to have a fun icon instead of the boring Powerpoint document picture. How do I do this?

OK the easiest solution to this is if you have another program or file that has the icon that you want.

Find that program, right click it (ctrl & click on a MacBook),s elect "Get Info", click on the little Icon of the file in the top left and copy it with cmd-C or copy from the edit menu.

Then go to the file that you want to change the icon for, repeat the "Get Info" process, click on the icon and then past with cmd-V or paste from the edit menu.

That should do it.

If you want to make your own icons, well I know that you can do it but I never have, ask me and I'll look into it...

That site is great. ds3 has a cute icon for his powerpoint presentation now. I am really pleased Will have to stop myself changing the icons of every item on my desktop instead of making tea ;)
