Downloading Antivirus, help silly question

Okay so I downloaded Avast,
but I still have one day left on my Norton subsctiption, so I still had it installed so after all the waiting and scanning niether would let me on to internet,

I have uninstalled Avast and here I am so, question is
do I install Avast again and then unistall Norton
OR
Is it safe to uninstall Norton before downloading Avast?

Panicing incase I lose mn internet connection

I deleted Norton then did a restart and downloaded and installed Avast.

Ok just panicing about picking up any nasties inbetween times

Thing is AFAIK you can't run 2 systems on one computer, you could download Avast onto a flash drive and disconnect the internet connection then uninstall Norton do a restart and load up and activate Avast and once it is on and done then reconnect internet?

Anything else I should be downloading while I'm at it?

Thanks I've got it installed and up & running although some how managed to change my google side bar to an olfashioned looking clock that I don't like off to tinker

If you did pick up any "nasties" in between installations the new antivirus would find and destroy it after installation.
