How do I stop Norton scanner from scanning?

I have avg protecting my computer, but I seem to have picked up an occassional Norton full body scan. The thing is, I don't remember asking for it! This is a worry, and I am peeved at its inopportune warningless scans that take ages.
Any one encountered this before? Can I, or should i get rid of it?!

There's this here, which takes a while but is nice and thorough, or you can download a norton removal tool.
IMO, you should get rid of it, because norton is notoriously rubbish, and tends to cause more problems than it fixes.
