Google documents - better alternative?

Using google docs to fileshare, mostly using word spplications, as there are three of us working variously from home, part-time or around other commitments. We're all on Macs. Finding google docs incredibly slow and clunky, especially with excel spreadsheets. Anyone know of any free alternatives for basic filesharing?

is there a reason you're using excel sheets when google docs has a spreadsheet programme? That would probably be a lot quicker... it updates almost instantaneously when DH and I have worked on things together.
I am on mac, he is PC

EachPeach using Excel cos that's what the document was created in. Only just started filesharing and will stop as soon as I'm back at work, so will revert to the excel original then.
