Panic! 2 years of emails disappeared

Hope you can give some advice. On Weds last I logged on as usual to discover all emails back to 2007 had disappeared from Outlook express and sent box is empty too. My PC housekeeping is rubbish I admit but I do still have stuff in deleted items back 3 months.

I'm assuming virus but does anyone know a way of restoring emails - cos some are to do with holiday bookings that I haven't printed off ~? Please - sob

It may well have autoarchived - go to FILE and OPEN and look for a .pst file and open it.

Thanx wmmc but I need a bit more info. File and open where from? If I try to do it in outlook express I just get the list of remaing emails - not file names? Sorry I'm not that savvy with the workings of Outlook express etc but really appreciate your help!

Okay...

(1) Look at the top left of your screen, it will say FILE - click on that and go down to OPEN

(2) It should (should) show you a location with a file with a .pst file in it. It's probably under mydocuments/mail.pst

(3) Click on it, it will open and your old emails will all be in a new mailbox folder in the left hand panel where your inbox is.

Make more sense?

If I click on file and open it asks me for an internat address of file and if I browse to try to find a .pst file it just sends me to my pictures or document, none of which are .pst files

Have we got different versions of Outlook express - mine is 5? years old

I'm on a Mac - haven't used Windows for a while but do you have system restore?

Bottom left this time START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, SYSTEM RESTORE and roll it back to before the problem.

Or go to START, FIND and type in *.pst and look for a file called outlook.pst or mail.pst.
