Having problems with pictures on my external hard-drive

Every time I open the main folder I get an error message & it closes & offers to send a error message Microsoft

I have scanned it with AVG & with an antimalware programme

Any ideas what next?

Run chkdsk.

Get a program that will run the drives S.M.A.R.T. self test and report the results.

I did the chkdsk - but it still happens

Not finding anything vaguely computer like when I search for SMART

I'll have another go - but does anyone have other suggestions?
