Anyone else gutted that they will need to buy a new PC/Mac to play the Sims 3?

Not that I have time to be doing that or anything ......
But as far as I can see it is not compatible with the MacBook that I have and when I look at the spec for the game, it only seems like the brand new MacBook pros and iMacs that are compatible!

No, no, no! Resisting urge to check the spec... must not buy Sims 3!

It's just such a massive time hoover, as if MN wasn't bad enough. Never used to impress DH when i was playing Sims 2 pre-baby, got a bit carried away, trying to sneak into bed at around 3am

HelloBeastie I was the same - it's like a guilty pleasure - my dp could not understand why I spent so much time playing a "kids game", and I don't think I helped my case too much when I tried to explain that I was trying to get a promotion so I could go to work in a helicopter.........

Intel Macs only running Leopard, I think? So a newer macbook would be okay?

I have Sims 3 ... on my iMac ... would it be terribly heartless to say it's awesome?

and it says my computer has passed! My old lappy is 6 years old and decrepit. Still, it got me through Sims 1 and 2. NOw that that ones died my dad has given me his old one, which is about 2 years old and I'm so excited to get Sims 3 when I get paid!
Course, my baby is also due at the same time, so we'll see how often I actually get to play!

The Sims 1 & 2 were responsible for my purchase of new over spec (and over budget) machines - I slightly wonder how much they are paid by the big PC manufacturers...

I'm very glad about the simultaneous PC/Mac release. It will be great to have Sims3 on our lovely IMac.

Ughhh I'm waiting for a patch but my friend has just upgraded to 4gb RAM and says its working alright now

My only gripe is the speed controllers, >>> is exactly like speed 1 lol.

I am going to order 4gb RAM too.

I understand about 90% of players are experiencing problems. I would normally be patience but FFS they postponed in February, what the heck have they been doing for 5 months!!!!

I'm sticking with the Sims 2 - the sims in Sims 3 look weird and featureless to me. Also I have spent years creating my perfect little world so to start again is a bit scary!

Oh I find Sims 3 so much more fun. Far less linear repeat same stuff to trawl up the ranks gameplay. You get extra side missions and things, far more fun leisure stuff to do... can go visit/wander around far more easily... everyone else ages too...

CherryChoc I know what you mean but I finally deleted Sims 2 today, there's no going back for me, though I will miss my custom content and such.

I'm having a great time with my new sims, I stupidly got the fertility treatment and ended up with triplets!!! Agh lol

What are the design options like? I remember being really frustrated moving from Sims1 with all the expansion packs to Sims2 and going to a really limited repertoire again (I like lots of wall paper choice!).

Ahhhhh good to find other Sims lovers!

DP is a committed gamer so our PC is often found on the sitting room floor in bits while he stabs around with a screwdriver, swearing and trying to make it do things faster. But the plus side is that it runs Sims 3 no bother - it's great! It isn't a lot different, but it is much less clunky and repetitive. I like that they can pee without being told to go - who needs that when you've got it all day from your child?!

Just as much of an addiction as the previous games though ... I try to avoid the 3am finishes, at least on school nights, but I can sympathise

I asked about Sims 3 a few weeks ago and got no response so I too am glad to finally find you lot

The design options are endless because it works on a colour wheel so like every colour you can think of, as well as a good few patterns which you can recolor also.
