Don't know if this has been mentioned before but...
If you have a child in school (inc nursery/playgroup) you can buy a copy of Office 2007 at a big discount. I just got the Enterprise edition (all the bells & whistles) for £54. And your school gets a small kickback too.

Also some Adobe & Kaspersky products too.

Details here:
www.microsoft.com/uk/education/buy/licensing/buying.mspx

www.software4students.co.uk/

Its full legal software. Only problem I found was you have to set up a profile with your child's school details & it can be hard to find your school in the list.

Hope this helps save some cash if you do need this software,

Cheers for the heads-up - I can't find the original Office cd to reload onto this laptop, and have been struggling with Works for yonks - ordered today.

has anyone used any of these companies as I wanted to get some adobe software to show dd a few tricks with flash and it seem incredibly cheap there. But do you just need a basic letter from the school to prove they are a student there and would adobe accept a 7yr old wanting to use it?
They have to do quite a few powerpoints so it would be great fun to teach her a few bits in flash.(I have used it in the past so remember quite a bit).

Or there's LibreOffice for free.

I have used software4students for a number of years, and it has been mentioned here many times.

Bear in mind that you can get 30 day free trials of Adobe (and Microsoft) software.

Powerpoint is a useful skill to learn for anyone, Flash is only useful for those who are leaning towards a career as a programmer or designer IMHO.
