I can't turn my laptop off.

I will try to explain this clearly. I have Windows Vista if that makes any difference.

Basically if I want to shut down/log off/sleep the computer I press the little windows icon bottom left of the screen. It then comes up with various options so I can switch off etc. When I press on one of them, nothing at all happens.

I suspect dd1 has inadvertently pressed something to cause this.

Any advice please (I am not technically minded at all btw)

Pull the battery out

Thats what I do, I don't know any other way.

I would take the battery out.

Or press the turning off button (one with a circle with a line at the top). I know these are not recommended all the time.

Thanks for the replies. I shall do it later. (am going to work soon and don't want to get in any sort of state). ime simple little jobs like taking the battery out can go wrong, especially with helpful little fingers around!
