Best, cheap (FREE?) way of creating a website?

My ds (11) and his best mate want to have their own website to show off their 'comic books' and animations.

I know NOTHING about these things, but obviosuly, because this is possibly a flash-in-pan obession, I do not want this to cost me (or the other parents) money.
Have heard about YOLA.
Are there others? Are they 'safe'?
Are they complicated?

Any thoughts, advice welcomed.
Thanks

2 others spring to mind:

Google Sites
Yahoo Geocities - oops, I see they have closed that now

... but if you want to post video content (animations) I think only YouTube will let you do that for free.

You will probably find that to sign up for anything like this and agree to the terms and conditions you have to be over 18.

Safe? Any web site that allows comments, or has a forum, will get inappropriate comments ranging from teenage boys posting 'you fakk1ng d1ckhd' to professional spammers attempting to link to hardcore porn sites. YouTube etc. will have ways to limit the latter, but be prepared for the worst.

Complicated? Maybe for you, but not for an 11 year old boy .

thanks!

DS says they wish to ''concentrate on showing their their comic books in ortder to fund their animations''.. so video not neccessary.

lol. I'm not sure whether to feel indulgent or in awe. They don't actually have anything to display yet, but they are VERY serious in their research...

Actually, back to a serious note, I'm sure there's another MNer who's son did this! Not sure if she's still around?
