I am presuming it is the number underneath my laptop?

Anyone know why it wont work please?

Product key will be a number which was printed on a sticker on the MS Office package when you bought it.

knickers0nmahead · 15/04/2009 22:12

it came already installed.

You don't get MS Office free with most computers these days I'm afraid - the product key on the bottom of your laptop will be the one for Windows Vista or XP, Office is a separate program.

You will have to buy a copy - the Student edition, or whatever they're calling it these days is usually the cheapest, unless you want Publisher as well.

The thing that comes pre-installed is only a demo - if you buy a copy you will probably not have to reinstall it, just enter the product key from the sticker & it will re-enable all the bits included in the version you have bought. (I did it before the trial ran out though so I'm not absolutely sure it will be the same) The student edition can be installed on up to 3 computers.

Try Open Office. It's free, it opens word docs and slideshow presentations etc. Oh, and did I mention it's free. www.openoffice.org/

Because it was only a trial, to get you to buy the full version. You'll need to either purchase the full version or use Open Office, as suggested by Pixel.
