Windows XP - what does an orange coloured program tab mean

Spyware was running but I paused it as it was running slowly. Now that window back can't get back in to resume or stop it. Windows won't let me close it, even though it is Not Responding saying it is "busy" and is now highlighted in orange along the bottom .

The tab going orange usually means that it's trying to attract your attention because it's waiting for you to do something.

One of the programs I have to use at work has an irritating habit of popping up a small window asking for you to confirm something (and turning the tab orange to get your attention), but it puts the confirmation window behind all the other ones. So you can't see the small window asking for confirmation as it's hidden behind everything else, and clicking on the orange tab only brings up the main program, not the confirmation box Might be worth a check.

Say 'Cancel' to 'not responding' if you can and then try pressing ALT ESC repeatedly. It should bring all the windows to the front one at a time until you see the right one to click on to close the program properly.

Thansk fro advice . Hwoever it now seems completely hung on that program. If I get a window where the progress of the spyware scan and options should appear it is either blank or shadows part of the previous window

Sometimes it's all you can do. XP though is usually pretty good at letting you regain control.
