Urgent Power Point Help Needed

Please help me, i have a job interview tomorrow and part of which i have to do a presentation. It's quite technical material so I thought that I would do a power point presentation and told them as such. I have never attempted a power point presentation before though have seen them.

I understand how to make the slides up. The bit i don't understand how do the people at the interview see my presentation. Will there be some sort of projector there and how do my slides get up on there? could someone please tell me what i have to do from opening up the powerpoint package.

I know these are very stupid questions and I really wish I had never said this but i can't back out of now as I also exaggerated my IT skills on the application form!

I haven't finished doing the slides yet (or what I am going to say!) but it will be saved on my lap top and I intend to take my lap top with me (must remember to close down internet page with mumsnet on it!)

The projector connects up to your laptop. So you either need to bring a laptop, a memory stick with the presentation saved to it, or email it to them in advace so they can have it ready for you.

You show your presentation by going to either "view" or "Slideshow" on the top menu, and then picking the appropriate option.

if you are taking your own laptop, it's easiest to save it on the desktop, and then when you want to show it you just right click on the icon & choose Show from the menu that comes up. That way it goes straight into the presentation, without showing it in edit mode first.

Couple of points to consider - make sure you know where to connect all the cables to your laptop - including sound if you need it- from the projector. It might be a projector with a screen or an interactive whiteboard - if so & if you want to use the interactive functions you'll probably have to put a USB connection in as well as the display one.

Second thing is to make sure you know how to change the display output so it goes to the projector - usually you press Fn+F5 but it can be F8 or something else - look for a picture off 2 monitors on the key. On some computers you do it by right clicking on the desktop & choosing Graphics -options &it will give you an option like 'output to' & you can choose monitor & notebook. The trouble is the exaxt procedure depends on you graphics card & if you don't have a second display connected it won't give
you the option, so it's difficult to practise first - if you're not sure try googling your laptop make + connect second display.

Just got back to the thread - the presentation itself went really well - had a few hiccups setting it up - think laptop was really slow - but unfortunately i didn't get the job as i was a bit pants on the actual interview itself. oh well - thanks for all your help and at least i now know how to do a powerpoint presentation.
