Is a v+ box worth it?

Already have a normal Virgin cable box but notice that for the next week its only £49 to upgrade, normally its £150.

So it would be HD (I have a HD TV), can record stuff on it (already have a hard drive dvd recorder so not sure I'd use it), can pause live TV.

Should I get it?

Not the same, but I've got Sky+ HD and it's great - same features I think, HD and the easy recording onto a disk, plus pause/rewind live programs. Not sure how easy your hard-drive thing is to program, but the Sky+ one is super-easy as you just pick things off the planner. But think about the monthly extra charge as well as the £49 upgrade. If it's a lot extra then it might not be as tempting.

I love mine, but then I hadn't been organised enough to get myself a proper recording device previously. Its sooo easy and useful to do things like series-link recordings. We have all but stopped getting pay-per-view movies now because we always have things to watch that we have recorded to watch instead. (used to get 3-5 a month costing 10-20 quid a month)

I suppose it depends how much the ease-of-use of the recording function means to you. We have used the pause-live TV a handful of times, but that hasn't been the majpor bonus for us. Are they still demanding 10 per month extra for HD or does it come thrown in now (only because it turns out that the V+ box gives you HD anyway, even if you have said you don't want to pay for it. I would not have paid the extra 10 a month for it, but I would get the box for a one-off 49 quid.

we record most of the series we care about and we pause tv to go to the loo or whatever all the time then ff through the adds to catch up.

sometimes we pause for ten mins at the start and do stuff JUST so we can ff through the adds

i LOVE our v+

I think V+ is great. It is so easy to use.

V+ is one of those things that you don't really need but once you get it you can't imagine NOT having it!!

best bits: you can record 2 shows while watching something else. if you are copying to dvd/video you don't have to watch it while you are copying it. you get something like 70odd hours of recording time. that's a lot of cbeebies!!

As I'm on the XL TV package I wouldn't have to pay anything extra each month. Spoke to DH and he mutterred about us not needing it, oh well. We have this lovely HD TV that I can't watch anything HD on.
