Can I load Office XP Professional version 2002 onto laptop running Vista Home Premium?

I have a newish laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium which doesn't have powerpoint/outlook/word/excel.

Whenever anyone sends a word document I can't open it, I can write a presentation (need to by next Tues!) - it's just crap! And I'm not a techno expert!

I have Office XP Professional version 2002 software - can I simply load this onto my new laptop?

I really don't have a clue! Can anyone help??

Yes, probably -- I've put Office 2003 (the copy I used to run on my Windows XP laptop) onto my Windows Vista Home Premium laptop with no problems. I expect 2002 would work fine as well.

Thanks, is it as straightforward as just loading the disk and following on-screen instructions?

Yes, go for it.

Done!

Although have read on several forums that I may have problems with Outlook 2002, so haven't dared to open it yet

biggest tip I can give you is turn off the stupid UAC (user access control)

it is a pain in the ass

amazonianwoman · 25/03/2009 18:28

How do I do that?

I think that Outlook XP (2002) will update to Outlook 2003 SP3 if you use Microsoft Update. I am happily running it on a Vista machine.

Don't worry about User Account Control (UAC) unless it causes you a problem. Aeschylus, doesn't your user have administrative privileges on your PC?

Having said that, if you don't have any strong reason to use Outlook, try the free and (compared to Outlook Express) surprisingly good Windows Live Mail instead.

Thanks again. Right now I just need Outlook for the calendar and contacts (to sync with my mobile) and it seems to be working fine, so I won't meddle with it!
