I've been trying to set up a wiki so local mums can share information about what's on locally eg. baby groups etc. I know bugger all about wikis so I just went with the first one which comes up when you google wiki- an outfit called wikidot. So far 34 mums signed up and five pages of activities listed. Yay.

But now lots of people are having problems logging on and I have no idea why. I find the wikidot helpsite impenetrable, not least as it's based in Poland. And seems to be written for techy geeks, so I'm lost. Does anyone know of a decent and reliable wiki site where I won't keep having these problems? Thanks.

There are lots of wiki farms - see this list on Wikipedia for some alternatives.

I have no experience of any of these though, when I want a wiki I install DokuWiki on a shared hosting account. But then I am a geek.

Thanks MrV. That list of fifty wiki farms is quite mindboggling- I can't make head nor tail of which one would be the easiest for a duffer like me! I can see that this might be a longer task than I had hoped, trying to find a simple one for idiots. I'll see if I can find another geek to help me with DokuWiki- thanks very much for the tip.

Don't suppose anyone else is out there with a view?
