Need to resize a digital photo - anyone know how?

I need to resize a photo so that I can upload it to a website. For some reason, photos from my digi camera are @1300kb (too big). Can't see anything in the Windows Photo and Fax viewer that would allow me to resize it... I'm sure I'm being dim but can't work out how. Anyone have any ideas?

You need photo resizing software, such as Photoshop Elements or GIMP. I think Google may do one as well.

If you don't have the software Tee suggests, a fiddly but quicker than it sounds solution is:

Often your photo viewer software will have an email option, choose this and email it to yourself and choose medium or small file size when you get prompted. You can retrieve it from your email, resave it and upload from there.

MS Picture Manager:-

Go to PICTURE at the top of the screen and then go to RESIZE at the bottom of the drop down menu.

Thank you very much. Am trying the mail option at the moment.

Doodle - I don't seem to have MS Picture Manager, just the photo and fax viewer, which is driving me crazy (WHY is there no resize option on it?)

How lovely of you!

I have just tried saving it to the desktop but it doesn't give me a choice of programs.

Can I take you up on your email offer?

Course you can. Send it now and I'll have it back in a few mins - OK?

Thank you so much doodle, you're a star.

The emailing-it-to-myself thing seems to have worked a treat so thanks for that tip, madrush.

Thank god for mumsnet - I was on the verge of the old foot-through-the-screen scenario then

Getting to this thread a bit late... but for those looking in the future - if you are using Win XP, then Windows PowerToy: ImageResizer will add an option to resize an image to the right click menu when highlighting an image file.

Another option (and this works with MS VISTA) is VSO Image Resizer - which again adds an option to the right click menu.
